Updating Your Home’s Bathroom

Clare Vaterlaus

Whether you are building your home or remodeling, there are special electrical and lighting concerns you need account for in a bathroom.  Having a professional Alloway electrician assist you in wiring your bathroom will ensure that it is a safe environment with maximized utility for everyday use.

Bathrooms present a damp environment.  Lighting fixtures near showers and bathtubs need to be watertight with waterproof lens covers to prevent potential electrical hazards.  These areas also need to be well lit so that these areas, which are slippery when wet, can be used safely.  Lighting is also critical around the bathroom mirror.  Many bathrooms have access to very little natural light, so it is necessary to use strip lighting, can lights, or wall sconces to create a bright environment.

A good ceiling exhaust fan installed correctly will keep moisture at bay and dissipate any bad smells that emanate from the bathroom.  An Alloway electrician can suggest the best model for your space and install it correctly.

Finally, electrical outlets also are an important component of any bathroom configuration.  Outlets need to be near the sink for easy use, but in the right location to avoid a hair dryer or curling iron falling into the sink.  Ground fault circuit interrupter outlets (GFCI) will provide safe power for all of your bathroom electrical needs.

If you are ready to create the bathroom you have always wanted be sure to include an Alloway electrician in your plans so that it is safe, convenient to use, and aesthetically pleasing.
