Alloway Electric- The Phoenix

Alloway Electric has been honored to be part of the Treasure Valley community for 96 years! We find it of high importance to give back to our community when we can. Alloway Electric recently had the opporutnity to help out the The Phoenix of Boise!

Alloway is so happy to help a business that does nothing but help those around them! Take a few minutes to read up on the incredible work that is being accomplished.

The Phoenix’s mission is to build a sober active community that fuels resilience and harnesses the transformational power of connection so that together we rise, recover, and live.

If we look at statistics, there is an incredible number of people who do not access treatment or find help for Substance Use Disorder (SUD). Many millions. There are also deeply held societal stigmas that exist surrounding SUD. What we do at the Phoenix helps folks overcome some of those barriers. In Idaho and Boise specifically, we do all kinds of activities (during non-COVID times). These include Yoga, Mountain Biking, Hiking, Strength Training, Art Night, and many other sober activities. There is a certain magic that happens when folks are working out together. The high fives and encouragement are not forgotten, and are sometimes the only positive interaction a person might get that day. All of our activities are free, we only require that folks have at least 48 hours of continuous sobriety. Let’s think for a moment about a new member, getting high fives and meeting folks who have a commonality – overcoming SUD. Say Saturday rolls around and they are sitting at home, anxiety is high, depression is kicking in, worry over what to do next is in their thoughts. They start to call their drug dealer…in desperation and a need for relief, when they remember “Joe” that guy they met Thursday in the Strength class. He had given them his phone number. Next thing you know, these two are meeting for coffee, going for a hike, or having some other kind of positive, healthy interaction. That is the power of the community that is built at The Phoenix. We use the foundation of healthy activity, but it’s not about how much weight someone lifts, or if their yoga pose is perfect. It’s about connection. Since COVID 19 shut down many activities, that connection is even more important. We have implemented a very robust live-streamed calendar of activities, 8-10 a day, for folks to plug into. We also do outdoor activities, and as long as COVID rates are low we do in-person activity in our gym located downtown on Americana Blvd. It is great to see someone identifying themselves as a father, mother, athlete or whatever it might be, instead of a drug addict, alcoholic, or a million other derogatory terms. That is transformative.

The Phoenix is a nonprofit that has served Boise for 3 years now. We have done activities as far away as the Hiawatha Trail in North Idaho, events in Pocatello, Sun Valley, Bogus Basin, and Canyon County. There is huge need for recovery support and that is what we are here for. In Idaho we have about 1300 members and we are working on ways to reach even more.

The work that was done on our gym last week, helped solve some security issues as well as some safety concerns. It is truly appreciated and allows us to continue to find ways to make an even bigger impact in our community!
